Mats for flat irons are a must-have for hair styling. They allow us to roll out and straighten one’s hair effortlessly. The disadvantage of these wonderful tools, in addition to a fairly high price depending on the brand (obviously you can find cheaper ones) is that they absorb odors.
Why they absorb odors:
Heat-resistant mats for flat iron absorb odors because they are made of silicone, which is a material that expands when heated, allowing odors to seep in. This can lead to an unattractive and a very unpleasant look and odor. Remove the stains as fast as possible.
Turn on the iron and put it on the rug for about 2 minutes so that it heats up and expands. Turn the flat iron off and put a layer of bicarbonate with water (pasta type) on the mat, and wait until it filters. Let the bicarbonate rest for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water. You will see how that unpleasant burning smell goes away as if by magic.
Someone discovered a feasible trick by accident: that person used bleach to achieve a dark brown crust, and then put the silicone sheet away without washing it.
When he washed the silicone mat, it turns out the bleach had cleaned up the mat surface.
However, Silpat’s care instructions warn that “aggressive materials such as bleach and highly acidic detergents can damage and / or shorten the mat life, although it is heat resistant.
If you prefer to use something a little less caustic, use baking soda. Baking soda is known as a superstar cleaning solution along with white vinegar.
Make a paste of baking soda and a little vinegar, or just baking soda and a little water, and use a sponge or light in-between steel brush bristles to work on the carpet while it is still warm. Let it sit for at least 10 minutes, then rinse with hot water and pat dry.
Wash the flat iron mat before the first use. Place the mat on a tray facing up. This rug is very flexible and durable, so you can reuse it hundreds of times. It withstands temperatures from -40º C to 250º C. You can actually store it stretched or rolled.
Clean your mat with a soft and damp sponge and then rinse with lukewarm water. If necessary, you can use a little soap or detergent to clean it. Note: it is normal that the mat discolors a little over time after continued use.
While heat-resistant flat iron mats are dishwasher safe, it is always best to hand wash them with warm soapy water. Make sure they dry well. Hold onto it for 10 minutes. Put the mat (s) in a place where the sun hit it (them).
For burn marks, let the mat soak in warm soapy water for a few minutes, then try removing the marks with a soft sponge or microfiber cloth. Avoid using abrasive or stainless steel sponges, as they can scratch them and cause rust.
